The Belgrade Forum for the World of Equals and the Club of Generals and Admirals of Serbia, as non-partisan, non-profit associations, express deep concern over the deepening and intensification of divisions within society, which lead to the futile dissipation of social energy and make it more difficult to achieve and protect the most important state and national interests. These associations call upon all actors in the society to place vital national and state interests first and for everyone, in accordance with their position in society, to devote themselves fully to the protection and realization of the country’s and the nation’s strategic goals. These are: the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country, freedom and equality, economic sovereignty, independence and active neutrality, national, cultural and spiritual identity, comprehensive socio-economic progress, and a society of social justice. This is the only reliable foundation for building the much-needed harmony in society and for successfully defending against the efforts of certain centers of power to subjugate Serbia and align it with their camp. We must not allow individual, corporate, partisan, or foreign interests to jeopardize the realization of Serbia’s strategic national and state interests.
This is a time of militarization and wars, of open preparations for a global conflict, of ruthless violations of international law, of the resurgence of neo-fascism and neo-Nazism, of blatant interference in Serbia’s internal and foreign policy with the aim of destabilizing it, and of discrimination, humiliation, and violence against the Serbian people, as well as the creation of anti-Serbian alliances. Such a time is not an occasion for quarrels, for deepening divisions and differences, but rather for dialogue, for turning to ourselves, and for concentrating our energy on existential national and state interests and goals. The Forum and the Club of Generals and Admirals believe that the building of harmony in society today should be accepted by all as a supreme task and a prerequisite for the comprehensive strengthening of Serbia and for a secure and peaceful future of the Serbian people. Everything that does not contribute to that goal should be set aside – in the homeland, in the region, and among the Serbian diaspora.
The Forum and the Club of Generals and Admirals call upon the mass media to support, through objective reporting, the directing of public attention and social energy toward national and state priorities and not to encourage, in any way, the deepening of divisions and confrontation within society.
